Coolest Software Development in the Intelligence Community

Would you like to become an expert in building Data Visualization software?  Do you want to get in on the Cloud Computing wave?  Have you considered how to combine Social Networking and Real-Time Analytics?  Do you want to write the code that mines vast collections of complex data for patterns and events important to national security?  Do you want to help the Intelligence Community collaborate and share data faster than ever before?

If you are tired of doing the “same old development work” that many highly-cleared Software Engineers do, you should consider being part of this company.

My confidential client is changing the way that the Intelligence Community works and uses data.  Using leading edge, often bleeding edge technologies, they are building the next generation of innovative software systems that are saving lives.

To succeed here, you must have a love of software development and a love of working in an exciting, fast-paced environment.  You must be strong at analyzing complex problems and formulating solutions.  You must really know how to write code.  This is not a large integrator environment in which you become the 43rd software developer on a giant program.  Small flexible teams, Agile software development methodologies, challenging work: that is the nature of this organization.

To be able to jump in and become a part of this elite team you will need to bring a few specific skills to the table:

- an active TS/SCI clearance (a polygraph is preferred, but just a TS/SCI is fine as long as you are willing to go through a polygraph process in the future)
- BS and 5+ yrs of solid OO (MS and 3+ yrs, or no degree and 7+ yrs, is also acceptable)
- deep skills in Java, C++, Ruby on Rails, or Groovy on Grails
- an ability to take on a tough problem, figure out the solution, and write the software that implements it without being micro-managed
- good knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies
- a desire to follow Agile development practices (Scrum, TDD, etc.)
- a willingness to work in the Columbia, MD or Ft. Meade area

If you’ve worked with Hibernate, Spring, Flex, JSon, JQuery, GIS, or FMV, that’s a plus, but our main concern is finding skilled, energetic, innovative software engineers with the fire in their bellies to do very cool, very important software development work.

My client also pays extremely well and have a great benefits plan, but if money is the only reason you want to work for this organization, you are missing the point.  If you want to do the coolest software development work in the Intelligence Community, this is where you need to be.
