|
If you are a Top Secret (or TS/SCI) cleared DBA or Database Developer, here is an opportunity to be involved in some of the neatest Intelligence Community work that exists.
Our confidential client does what can best be described as Applied Research and Development for the Intelligence Community and DoD. They tackle the toughest data engineering problems that exist. They are a mid-sized, niche firm that is often chosen over the larger integrators to be the prime contractor on critical efforts.
Our client's team at a classified government location near Oxon Hill, MD has been developing innovative solutions for their customer for over a decade, and they have recently been awarded a 5-year extension and growth of their prime contract. This growth has spurred them to hire a person that really loves working with databases and making them perform. This is an opportunity to tune truly massive databases.
Because of the size of the databases involved, standard RDBMSs are often not sufficient. Our client does utilize Oracle and other RDBMSs, but for the largest databases, they use SybaseIQ, a columnar database. In the future, it would be reasonable to expect many other new technologies to be involved as well. High end hardware is behind these solutions, including multi-core servers, clusters, large fiber channel arrays, and SANs/NAS.
The key to success in this role is your experience tuning databases. If you have good experience in this area, our client will get you the training you need to learn Sybase IQ and whatever other technologies you need.
Here are some of the specifics this role will include:
- tuning existing databases for performance and scalability
- designing and implementing new databases with performance and scalability in mind
- analyzing architectural and platform options and making recommendations
- load balancing, table partitioning and indexing
- trigger, stored procedure, view, and SQL query design and tuning
- supporting production, test, and development environments as a DBA / DB Developer- supporting data conversion and ETL efforts
An active TS clearance is required (TS/SCI preferred).
